Letting go is a natural inner skill—like exhaling—freeing us from stress, clinging, and aversion, and opening space for peace, well-being, and deeper connection.
Happiness nurtures wisdom: by recognizing what helps and what harms, we reshape our views, calm the mind, and let go—moment by moment—of what causes suffering.
These are parts one and two for the nineteenth talk from the Train Your Brain course taught by Rick Hanson, Ph.D. and Richard Mendius, M.D. in 2008.

Intention shapes our actions, rooted in awareness, values, and care. By aligning purpose with mindful practice, we cultivate skillful, compassionate change.
Sadness and loss are inevitable, but healing is possible. By nurturing brain health, simplifying life, and cultivating positivity, we can restore balance and hope.
Shame is a heavy burden, but you can move through it—into worth, confidence, and self-respect—by releasing the past and recognizing your true value.
Anger, though often destructive, can be a signal of unmet needs or injustice. Used wisely, it becomes a tool for self-awareness, not a weapon of harm.
Use your mind to calm the body, greet anxiety with curiosity, and tap into ancient instincts—fight, flee, freeze, appease, tend, and befriend—with skill.
Feeling good isn’t selfish—it builds strength, connection, and learning. Positive emotions reshape your brain, heal old wounds, and grow lasting inner resources.
Mindful presence is the skill of staying grounded in clear, non-judgmental awareness, resting in the spaciousness of consciousness amid life’s changing experiences.
Treat your body like a beloved friend: nourish it, listen to it, and support it with mindful nutrition to foster well-being, resilience, and inner peace.
Your body has a built-in calm button: the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS). Activate it through deep breathing or relaxation to lower stress and boost well-being.
Life is precious and fleeting—each day a pearl spent. This class is about honoring that gift by being fully for yourself, living with strength, care, and purpose.
Awareness of the body grounds mindfulness. Experience is constructed, not fixed. Understanding this frees us from clinging—and opens the door to peace.
